I have no idea if it is illegal or not because this is my first time hearing about
it,if it is then I'am sorry for asking, but anyway a friend of my daughter came over while I was at work and tried to connect to my cable modem with her laptop. My wife call me and ask for some kind of address that I had no idea what she was talking about. So after i got home she said the girl said something about a hotspot. It sounded interesting because I've been thinking about getting a laptop.What I want to know is if that can be done, how can I go about doing it and what do I need to do to connect?
Like I said if it is illegal than I'am sorr for asking.
 
It is not illegal, it is just a wireless router. It allows many wireless devices to connect to a single source. You can simply put a password on it so only people who know it can connect.

Make sure you buy one that your computers can receive. For Example if you have a laptop that has a Wireless B/G then your router could be either a B/G OR only a B OR only a G.

If your desktops dont have wireless cards you can still plug into most wireless routers. I use the Linksys, and have had no problems.
