how 2 restart windows me in safe mode?

i cant seem to get it into safe mode, running windows me.

tried tappinmg f8. and using shift/tab keys. any suggestions appreciated, thanks, p
 
start>run>msconfig>advanced> check "enable startup menu"> ok> click "yes" when asked to restart

then it will ask if you want to start in safe mode after rebooting click yes of course
