How are my build specs.

I was quoted $585 for the following build, and have a couple of questions;

intel core i5-2400
ASUS P8H61-M-LX DDR3 Intel 1155pin Motherboard
Kingston 4GB kit(2Gx2) DDR3 1333 x2 = 8gb RAM overall
Seagate 3.5" Barracuda 500GB ST3500413AS SATA3 7200R
PM 16MB HDD
HIS 1GB 6670 PCI-E VGA Card
Generic case with 600W PSU

I have 40 dollars left to spend, so I think that Ill upgrade the CPU to i5-2500, and the video card to powercolor 6770 PCI-E VGA. Thoughts??

Ill be using the computer predominately for Autodesk Inventor, and possibly some computer games. Hopefully the 6770 will be strong enough. My monitor is 19" widescreen, but once I have a bit more cash, may purchase a 27".

what RAM setup would be better, 2GB x 4, or 4GB x 2 ?

Stick to i5-2400, I don't see the need for i5-2500, unless you go for Z68 chipset with K-series CPU

RAM - 2 x 4GB

Video card - get 6770.

PSU - HAS TO BE GOOD BRAND!!! NO RUBBISH GENERIC

I don't really understand, what would the z68 chipset allow me to do?

The K-series CPU is out of my price range :(

also, excuse my ignorance, but what advantages would 2x4gb RAM have over 4x2gb RAM ?

Ok, Ill call the supplier and make sure that the PSU offered is quality, and post the selected brand here.

Although, damage from a PSU, could result in a future system upgrade due to the warranty :P

If you want to overclock the CPU, the mobo have to be P67 or Z68 chipset. Z68 have a option for SSD caching.
As I looked at your set up, it appearant to me you won' t overclock...

I see. Yes you are correct, I have no interest in overclocking. Once my computer is built and ready for use, I will leave it as it is, and make no further modifications.
 
2x4gb = less power draw, less heat build up, easier on memory controller, leaves room to easily add more if you have 4 slots.

Use the $40 towards a case w/o a ps and get a quality ps. Antec/Seasonic/XFX/PC Power&cooling/Siverstone/Corsair.

i ended up going with a thermaltake LitePower 600 Watt PSU.

Hopefully this choice is good, but not too late to call tomorrow and have them change it.
 
$70 is pretty much my maximum to spend on a psu
I just noticed Antec Neo Eco 520 is $67 same price as thermaltake LitePower 600
 
assuming I made sense out of that, this is your best option.
Antec VSK-2450P / Sonata III / Sonata IV

and I gotta say, that form could be simplified better for more end user support.
