Look at these Stats from the i3-530 vs the Athlon II 630.

How are these two Processors so Similar?

Probably the fact that they are dual vs quad core.
1) i3 has higher clockspeed.
2) i3 is faster per clock
3) i3 has hyperthreading which produces two logical threads for each physical core.

They are not that close really. The Phenom II 720 or the 810 is alittle better match.
