So I just got my Gigabyte gtx 770 refurbished card for 300 dollars. I was really excited about it until I was trying to install it and it was not fitting. It was SO close to fitting and my setup was otherwise very compact and complete, and I really didn't want a new casing. So what I did was I took some small shear things and cut off the flap at the very end of the graphics card that was sticking out and causing the problem.
I was really happy when this worked and I BARELY was able to shimmy it into the right place and get the PCI to line up. However, now I am really paranoid about what I did. So I have some questions:
1. How dangerous is this modification to the card itself? As in, will this affect the heat sink to any degree on the card and cause it to overheat eventually?
2. Is this AT ALL re-sell-able in the future? I feel like nobody will want a card that looks like it was butchered on one end, but If it didn't loose functionality would people ever pay money for this if I upgrade in the future?
3. There are copper tubes that run the length of the card underneath the heat sink, which I imagine have some cooling function. If these are in contact with the case, will that have any effect on the cooling?
I know I should not have tampered with the card, but now that it has been done and is still functional, what should I be worried about?
