How Bad is Vista!?!?!!

I have always wanted to play with linux like that but i dont know if i would ever get it to look as cool as that man where did you learn to do all that and what version of linux is that?

if they're not careful, business's will get fed up of the PC requirments to run the stuff and will opt for Microsofts copmetitors.

coprrations upgrade pcs every 5 years on average. the hardware to run vista is pretty cheap. im sure theyre not worried about it.

I'm using SuSE Linux 10.1 (OpenSuSE, www.opensuse.org, free).
Installation is pretty simple. If you've got it, just run (from a terminal window):
Code:
yast2 -i xgl
And then get Beryl- http://software.opensuse.org/download/X11:/XGL/XOrg7_SUSE_Linux_10.1/i586/
Download the RPMs and install.
Then, from Xterm of an X based terminal window:
Code:
Xgl :1&
Then (just type and press enter):
Code:
DISPLAY=:1 startkde&
And again:
Code:
 beryl-manager
Then the beryl icon opens up in the system try in the new window, right click it and make sure the window manager is set to beryl, and then click "Restart Window Manger"

That should get beryl running for all of those SuSE users out there ;-)

I'm running vista business right now its pretty awsome i wont lie its fast as hell but i love it. I'm still gonna look into the linux too as a dual boot.

hey just wondering, is there a non torrent download of the vista beta? i baught a toshiba satelite laptop i get a copy of vista free in march 07 but i wanna try the beta on a dual boot set up?? does anyone know of a download link i know there is some, i looked all over the net with no luck, thanks in advance!

Running Vista Ultimate on a sub computer... good fun

*Beta version you mean :P

I'm running the full release of Vista Business on my PC now as a separate partition, and it works pretty good, but there are a ton of software and driver incompatibilities with it. It will be a great OS once they get those problems fixed.

I also really like the ReadyDrive feature.

I'm getting it on my new build after christmas. 2 gigs should be plenty,as will an 8600. And C2D. Besides, earlier on I doubt I'll have anything really valuable on my drive.

I must say, that upgrading my machine to 1GB of memory that I bought from Omega - my Vista RC2 is flying now. It sits at about ~350MB of memory usage, Id imagine that the actual release will be less memory intensive, plus Im still running some eye candy. It needs 512MB minimum though, for sure.

I have tried to install Vista RC1 which is the only version I have with a serial. Didn't work. Prolly the chipset drivers and graphics too. I do have another pc it runs fine on. I guess I will use that for getting to know it, and see if it works for me. Seems strange that when I tried to install it, both my cd and dvd drives where not recognized at all. So much for installing vista from dvd.....

You cant have the full version of Ultimate because it hasnt finished the production stage. You either have Vista Business, or a newer Beta of Ultimate.

Well, hearing that SP3 is delayed to 2008, I won't keep silent and just hear BSing from Microsoft anymore. Effective January 1st 2007, I will be forced to switch to Linux. It's a thing I have to do. Although, I have two drawbacks:

One being the Dual XPC project (Two XPCs exactly the same)
The other being the console gaming and 3D gaming.

Another thing that pulls me down is the OpenGL and the Nvidia drivers somewhat a pain to install. I don't know why.

I haven't actually chose the successor, but if I don't stick with Linux, It's going to be Windows XP. I will then slowly move to 2003 and to stay stationary. Why spend $400 for just a nice looking box and a not so nice looking OS?

And If I want ultimate performence, I'll need a DX10 card. Screw that!

@Ku-Sama: RC3 doesn't exist. Also, the RTM is the final build. 6000 is the final release. Why are they taking time? Well, with their "nice" crap, they've got to make a "nice" crap box!
