How can Google know my location?

You would have to run the VPN all the time. That could pose some issues though. Like with Skype (if you use it) and PayPal. I've read users getting their PayPal count banned and were kicked from Skype since they used a VPN. I use one, but I don't use it all the time. I also don't use Chrome and Winblows 10 either.

Yes. VPNs are also slower than a regular connection. At least that's what happens to me.

Depends on who you use. They will be slower, I mean, if you have a 100 MbPS Internet connection don't expect the same for the VPN. You'll be lucky to get 30 MbPS. I use vpn.ac and they can be around 2 MB/s when I'm torrenting. I use the ECC protocol with UDP though. You really never want to use TCP.

You shouldn't really worry that much about Chorme's geo IP location awareness though. It will only know what ISP you have and state you live in. It could pin point your city too, but sometimes IP geo location isn't that exact so could be off. I live in Colorado and sometimes Yellowbook.com thinks I'm in Los Angeles.

Here's all Google knows about your IP address. http://whatismyipaddress.com/

No I wasn't really worried, like "Oh the NSA is going to know where I live!". I was just frustrated that I couldn't stop Google from knowing. Now that I know how it works I don't mind at all. Thanks.
