Hi, I have a gate way net book and I need it to run faster. I have some older computers that I'm not using, so could I take the processors and ram out of those computers and then connect them to the net book. I am not moving to net book around, I have it connected to a large monitor, and I also have a wireless keyboard and mouse connected to it. Is there any way to do this if the processors are different models?

No, you can't do that. The reason why its slow is because its max ram.is usually only 1 gb. What operating system is on it?

that might help (upping ram if possible), but really, netbooks are made to be minimalistic, they have the slowest processors that will do basic internet and such, and nothing more really, that way their batteries will last longer since they are so small thanks to their tiny form factor, and it also keeps their prices down. In the end your not going to see much of an improvement to the thing no matter what you do, unless you replace it.

Upgrading the RAM should help it. My Dad's Acer Aspire One originally had 1GB of RAM with W7 Starter and it was pretty sluggish, but he upgraded to 2GB (max the netbook can take) and it seems to have improved performance quite a bit. RAM is so cheap these days you may as well just get as much as possible.

if you are finding that Windows is running slow, you could think about going back to XP with regards to it being more softer on computer resources. You would still get given all the updates and SP's pushed out to you, but only until the point in which Windows stopped supporting. Thats the easiest way

Other than that you could look at a CPU upgrade, to go with upgrading your RAM in capacity or speeds. You would need to pay attention to Socket and Package types when upgrading your CPU but for the time being, I would make sure hyper-threading and DMA are enabled against your CPU and RAM

Yeah, you cannot add another processor to your computer. Upgrading the RAM would probably be the best idea.

The whole computer is build around the processor. Changing the processor in a computer is like changing the engine of a car, you'll have to change everything, and it will work only if you're lucky. I concur with the posts above me. Try to upgrade the ram.
