How can I clean my computer?

I got a lot of junk in my computer due to some expired downloads, deleted softwares etc and I'd like to clean my computer memory so it could work smoothly. Is there some free software available or is there something I can do myself?
 
Well, maybe you should start with the Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup utilities (Start -> Programs -> Acessories -> System Tools). There are a couple other things you could do, like make sure you don't have spyware/viruses etc... Also, go through your add/remove program list, and get rid of anything you don't want.
 
ye do disk defragment thats good. get a couple of programs to, i use tuneup utilities (1 click maintenance and clean disk), CCleaner, PC Rescue, Reg cleaner, Registry mechanic ect ect... and make sure you get spyware and virus removers like avast and spy sweeper, spybot search and destroy. those programs will make your computer more efficiant and more reliable and clean junk like you wanted. btw there not all free but in my opinion a good investment.

but formatting your hdd will always be the best way

After all the stuff mention before this post than goto to this site and get some utility software like System Mechanic or atleast get some idea. Some of the software are trial but its still do the job of cleaning and defrag. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,6522,00.asp
