How can I grab some drivers

So I've found that my native drivers that came with my alienware is the culprit of me not being able to play anything slightly graphically intensive. So, the 10.2 catalyst drivers won't work. I can't install the 11.5 drivers on the website cause it says they aren't compatible. I tried gurud3d for some older drivers but none of them would let me install the actual drivers. So I'm not sure how to fix my problem.

Yeah, if you go to the amd site and specify the 6 series mobile drivers they give you one, but at install it says it's not compatible

I agree.

Well, you know. That's awesome...though, I'm not any step closer to my goal, ya know.

Not sure whats going on. After the driver package comes up, are you picking the individual package tab at the top thats 79.9MB.?

Well, I tried the individual download but it didn't update the driver, just the catalyst control center... will that make a difference?

EDIT: If it should, it doesn't.

You might have what I call "Sony syndrome." Sony (vaio's in particular) lock the hardware down through windows and the only allow you to update the drivers and software through "vaio update" utility.

Now, I know you don't have a vaio, but Alienware might do the same thing? Do you have any update software pre-installed on the machine? Have you tried any other version of Catalys? (ie, 11.4)

What I have done so far (and to no avail (and no, I don't have any such software))

is use the recovery partition to reset the laptop. Uninstalled all drivers, used driver sweeper, and tried reinstalling the driver and each available update and testing each time.
updating using the 11.5b hotfix

one thing though, when I install the hotfix, it installs a more generic 6900m sereis driver over my 6970m driver, though that still solves no issue. I'd like to go back to ccc version 10.8 because apparently that version worked well, but I can't figure out how.

  1. Set a restore point and I am assuming you have a back up.
  2. Make sure UAC control is turned off
  3. Download the newest desktop drivers from www.ati.com
  4. Download this: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/frontpage/modtool/download.php
  5. Run the downloaded driver, let it extract into c:/ATI/SUPPORT - but cancel the installation once the driver is extracted.
  6. Run Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATI/SUPPORT/ - an example of Catalyst 7.4 would be C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 - hit modify. Wait until driver is modified.
  7. Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 (Or whatever the driver installation folder was called), and run the SETUP.EXE. Please note you might see a "Driver is not WHQL certified", ignore this, as it is a side effect of the modification.
  8. Wait until Install is finished and reboot. Enjoy the new drivers!

dude if this works you will be my new god (figuratively). I'll try later today and post how it turns out.
