Hello, im trying to install a little lcd screen onto a circuit board but the holes are all soldered up and i need to clear them so i can fit the wires.

I have a butane soldering gun and tried heating up a nail to push it thru but it doesn't work.

any ideas?

Solder sucker...

If you don't have one of these use some copper solder braid.

From what I have read it sounds like you need a soldering Iron rather than a gun!

How would i use the copper braid if i can find some?

and im not sure if its an iron or gun, its just a metal tip that fits over the flame...

thanks for the quick reply

Solider

Those boards require low amp irons.12 watts max, then use a solider wic.it sucks up the solider while its liquied.

also if your having trouble pushing the wire in.
i think radioshack might sell 1/32 bits. 1/16th is usually to big.a good soder iron is usually in order also. mine is as fine as a needle for smt.

if its your 1st time then good luck. i needed lots of that the 1st time.

Funny, I use them everyday at work... never been a problem for me, think your just using them wrong mate.

You can't really not use them right... But the ones we have are pretty used if ya know what I mean!! I just don't screw up so much so I can stay away from them!!

so what do you use if you screw up???

this project was supposed to be low-budget so i would rather not spend on a sucker or that braided coppper (which looks expensive...)

I think I know what you mean, but where I work we have to extract 28 pin chips and the only good affective way to do that is braid and solder sucker. Have tried other methods but that seems the best for me.

Then in this case what you might want to go is get a extra person to help you out...

Where there is solder on on board, place your iron/gun on the board to heat up the solder (if it does not heat it up, apply more solder to the hole so it turns into a liquid...). While the solder is in that state get someone to push the wire through the hole in the board.
