I ordered this premade dell like 2 years ago, its got a 2.13ghz Intel dual core processor, that I want to get rid of and upgrade to something a lot faster, like a 3.0 dual core or 2.4ghz+ quad core.

The only thing is I cant tell what socket my mobo is to fit a new processor, how can I find this out? thanks.

That being the case it will have LGA775.
edit:
You've got a P965 chipset, I couldn't find a supported CPU list though and I wouldn't expect every LGA775 CPU to work in it.

Just bumping the thread as I was editing my post when you posted so you may not have seen it.

Your CPU is fairly good right now, the chipset itself will support Core 2 Quads but I don't know the BIOS will. Dell should be able to tell you if you call them. If you don't want, sticking in the Core 2 Duo family is safe.

yeah im down to stay with the duo, theres some nice cheap fast processors out ther that wuld be good for my gaming lifestyle.

I went to the intel website and used a chipset detection program that said i had a G965 not a P965 chipset too so

As long as it is still a Core 2 Duo and has the same socket (775), then yes.

Not always.

This HP Mobo I have doesn't support anything other than Conroe's... the E6xxx series. It all depends on the mobo's BIOS if it supports it or not.
