I think the water idea would work best, the water would evaporate as it conducts the electricity, and it would short it...

ya ui guesse it could be like alot of humidity

just put a drop between the socket and the cpu....it looks just like it overheated because the shock melts 2 or 3 pins on the cpu and the metal will cover all or most of the water mark,which is usually not real apparent

thats how my old mobo died, i had a fan by the airconditioner and alot of humidity got through and around the cpu
