How do case fans connect onto the mobo?

Hey guys, im just curious as how the case fans are connected to the motherboard. Since the case fans are using molexes, is it possible to get another cable and switch it through onto your motherboard? It must be as thats the only way im guessing works.

Yes there is some cables you can get which convert the Molex's into the pin connectors which can go onto your motherboard
 
You can also get an old fan with the 2 or 3 pin mobo plug and cut the plug off or just one of the plugs with a little wire still on, cut the molex adapter off and then strip the sires, lay one accross the other corresponding wire and solder, voila!!
