ok my sister wants a mac computer, she asked me if i could put one together for her but i have said i dont know anything about macs. but i would like to know a bit so i can do this build for her.
1.) can i use any parts in this build like Q6600 CPU a EP35-DS3L 4 G ram an a ok vid card. or do u have to use special parts for mac?
so im also asking if a computer that is a mac, is it just normal pc hardware with the mac OS on it?
an is there anything i need to know before building a mac pc?
oh an btw that is not the buil it was just off the top of my head

You can't build a mac, plain and simple, because they use proprietary parts. You can get OS X to run on a PC, though, but that's something I'm not going into because it's one of those not-entirely-legal things

i'm no mac expert but if i'm correct you're in for quite a project.
mac just won't run that easy on a self build computer. You're restricted to the parts that apple uses and supports. If you don't you're going to have to write or change alot of the drivers mac os uses.
And even if you use mac supported hardware i think you have to reprogram some stuff. For which you really need some hardcore mac knowledge.

But as i said i'm no mac expert. This is just something a friend of mine told me.

Mac's cause brain damage...

seriously though,,buy a retail mac, buy a retail pc, or build custom pc.

..or get a laptop too..

wow thanks for the quick responses so buy a prebuilt mac would be the best.
the only reason she wants a mac is some program that she wants to use for video editing (i think its for vid editing) apparently it wont run on windows or it will run crap ill try an find out what program it is to see if u guys think it would run fine on windows

Yeah, you are better off buying a new retail mac but find out what the program is first. Maybe it will run on windows!

You can't exactly build them, they arent very high end computers, thats why you don't hear of any... Mac gamers. And on that point, they wouldn't be very good for serious video editing. If shes just trying to make movies and piece them together. Microsoft Movie maker can do that. lulz. Macs usually only interest people in the music industry for there amazing software. And that software doesnt have to have alot of power for sound compilation.

Wat do you mean they wouldn't be any good for serious video editing? Coming from a TV/Film background I beg to differ...most films are edited on macs Final Cut (a mac only product) is the most popular video editing software in the industry... I don't know where you got your "they won't be good for video editing" ideas..

Microsoft movie market contains about .0000001% of what final cut can do....

If you want Mac OS just because it doesn't have many viruses, better build yourself a pc (by the way there are no mac pcs, mac is not same with pcs) and install Ubuntu, it's a free distribution of linux and is very good.

But if you want it for video editing, windows may do the trick

I must disagree with you. Reasons:
1. I bet Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro can do even more together than Final Cut Pro can do
2. On windows there are more video editing applications than mac. Examples: Sony Vegas, Adobe After FX & Premiere Pro, Windows Movie Maker (70% i guess of the videos on youtube are made with windows movie maker), Ulead apps and much more.

Maybe some video editors prefer mac because it doesn't use RAM memory for nothing like win vista does, but xp is still very good for the job.

And on Windows this is like a general rule: if you don't want viruses (or hackers to break into your computer), don't connect to the internet. If you want a small network on a company, just make a local network without connecting any of the computers to the internet.

I edit on both Adobe Premier, after FX as well as Final cut, I prefer final cut, there are many reasons.

I agree that windows is okay for windows editing if you use Adobe, however anything like vegas, pinacle studio (now the owners of Avid) aren't cutting it. However most of the movies you see in the big screen where edited on Final cut.

are u kidding me??
the only reason there aren't any mac gamers is becuase there are barely any games out for the mac

the new mac pros got a 8 core intel xeon
reddevil6, im guessing she wants to run final cut pro?

I hope that was a joke....

Video editing is one of many reasons to go the Mac way...

I have XP in a VM on my iMac and I game all the time with it. It's not the most high-end but it still runs TF2, CS:S, BF2, BF2142 easily.

It's a 3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM and an 8800GS...

The Mac Pro machines will do even better, the best gaming card they have is an 8800GT but the Quadro FX 5600 will run games just fine.

Than let's put both Adobe After Effects w/ Adobe Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut pro to the test.
Let's create a creative animation, with as many and as cool as possible effects applied, with three dimensions in each of the application. I'll do it in After FX & Premiere Pro and you in Final Cut Pro.
It shouldn't take longer than maybe two weeks to finish it.
Then we will post the videos on youtube, and post a poll to see and vote which one is better. Agree with this challenge?
First we should get a theme for this project, a basic idea to start from. Anyone has one?

w0w d0od so kewl omg lyke du it haha

Final Cut is where video editing is at, plain and simple. Sorry but you can't really argue it, it is just better.

I would very much like to see what you both come up with, maybe you could go for?... A walk in the park? As it should be to beat the other? Let me know what you think
