how do i burn DvD's???

I have a DvD writer drive, but I cant burn a DvD file from my computer to a bland DvD. a friend of mine said I needed to download certain software to burn DvD's on Windows XP. is this my problem? if so, what do i need to download? if not, what do i do??

Yes you do need some software, I highly recommend Nero DVD burner: http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads.html it's one of the most known on the internet.

Tell me if you need any help with installing.

Ahh yes, so you downloaded Nero 8?

I downloaded Nero 8, and when it comes time to install, it says i need a key, where would i find that?

lol, Everything in life is NOT free. You have to pay for Nero and forum rules won't allow asking where to get a key. There are free programs out there, just google for "DVD Burner"

Want a good free program for burning discs? Look up DeepBurner Free. Works very nicely.

I second that. DeepBurner is probably the best freeware burning program out there. Assuming you only wish to burn a data disk.
