I want to know how much RAM I have - How do I do that on XP?
Also, can I add 256k of RAM on a notebook by my self, or should I take it to a computer shop? Which one is good one?

Thanks in advance...

right click my computer icon, properties. u can add memory and hardrive yourself, for memory u have to know if all the slots are filled or not.

if you can't do that mostly likely thats not your pc.

u can go into my computer and right click properties :D

Start > Run > dxdiag

that will show you how much RAM you have, as well as many other things.

Sincere thanks to all those posted !

It worked - I had a bug on My Computer somehow - I should re-format, but too lazy.

You guys a are a life saver ...

How did you get so smart? What book would you recommend for me to become like you guys - one easy to read?

Best way to do it. I have been working on computers since i was 10. My first computer was a Compaq Presario 425, it had a 486 with windows 3.1 lol. Expierence is everything. Just last year I built 6 computers 4 were for me.

yea, same here... just THG and computerforum... and computer club at school. now i know most in my comp club and have one of the fastest computers in my school. :) there are no books for this type of thing, they would get outdated so quickly.

um, actually the simplest way to do it is to go into the task manager (ctrl+alt+del), click on performance, and under physical memory you will find the number. if you have 256mb, it will rarely be 256---, or if you have 512, it wont be 512---...etc.

why not download a free program

You could just download a free system diagnostics program that gives you information about every part in your pc and even suggestions on where to get drivers and if there are any problems with what is installed on your pc and so on blah blah blah. Here´s the link http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
