hi

im rather new to this.

i want to reload xp home. now, do i d/l each sound card driver, graphics driver separately? i vaguely remember someone saying i can d/l a chip set and it works for the whole computer, am i way off on this one?

so when i d/l windows, i can surf the net with a USB cord right? but not the Ethernet connection, so will i have to d/l the sound and graphics cards and the Ethernet driver using the usb port?

and also, im not sure if i need a driver for my graphics card as when i put it in, it worked fine. but if i do try and use the usb connection maybe the graphics card wont work and ill have to use the built in one right?

or should i d/l all the separate drivers, or the chip set on to a external hard drive? then load them onto the new windows?

im very confused, can you guys give us a hand on this one?

What computer do you have? The easiest thing to do would be to download the drivers before reinstalling windows. Put the driver install files on a cd or usb flash drive and install from there. If you give me the model of computer you have, I can link you to all the drivers needed.

ok cheers

i just found a cd that came with my computer. i think it may have the drivers on it maybe?

it says: M2N68-AM
mcp68 chipset support DVD Rev..479.03
Vista Drivers inside
this DVD runs automatically if autorun is enabled.Otherwise run ASSETUPEXE from the bin folder
M2262

Thats everything it says on the disk

now my computer is M2N68-AM
Usus

is this all the information you need?

just ask for some more if needed

thanks:)

You are trying to install XP but that dvd says it has vista drivers. You will need download them online from asus.

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Click on that link and enter motherboard for product, socket am2,am2+,am3 for series, and then m2n68-am for model and select xp as your os. The chipset driver will install most devices except for the sound. So you will need the sound driver as well on that page.

You will also need to download the graphics driver if you have a dedicated video card. You will need to visit either ATI or Nvidia website for that driver though.

Thanks alot!

ok, just one more thing, i understand that to download the new drivers, you need to go to device manager for the sound and video, (right?) just not sure how to download the chipset one??

oh im talking about d/l the new drivers onto the new windows

ok thanks

now for just one more thing

i understand that to install the drivers onto the new windows you go thru device manager right? for the video and sound

just not sure how to install the chipset driver

The drivers you will download from asus are self extracting exe files. You run them and they will automatically install the drivers. Going into device manager isn't necessary.

Have you reformated yet? If you have not done so yet I recommend that you download http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/
to back up your drivers, I put mine on a flash drive and updated them that way. It is also important that if you have any hardware that uses software to go to their site and get their drivers and software, ie, video cards, gaming keyboards, headsets.

The thing I like about the program is that it sets all the drivers aside for you, and doesn't require you to bring the program over to extract them once you reinstall.
