how do i know how many internal hd my computer can have?

you can look into my computers and see how many drives there are, but that only works if you didn't partition any of them. Or you can open your computer up and take a look.
 
Most computers will have 2 IDE ports, and 2 drivers per port. So for most computers, that's 4 drives. Then again, your computer might be different. The best way of knowing is to open up your box and have a look.
 
Of course you can always purchase a PCI IDE expansion card, too...
My system only recognizes three devices at a time, though. I have three 80Gb HD's and a CD burner, but will only recognize the 3 HD's when all of them are plugged in.
