how do i know if my motherboard is overclockable?

hi i am looking to overclock my amd sempron 2600 because its going to be a while before i can upgrade and i am looking for a bit more performance. The thing is though i dont know if my motherboard can support overclocking and i dont have a clue what type of motherboard it is because this was a ready built pc. is there a way of finding out what it is or not? also could someone explain this to me, if a motherboard does not support overclocking does this mean it simply wont work if you try or does it mean it will break something if i do try?

thanks in advance

Do you have a prebuilt PC, like branded, ie. HP, Dell? If so, you cannot OC. The bios is most likely locked. If it's not one of those, you can go into the bios and look for some type of speed changes, sometimes ram, sometimes cpu, sometimes bus.
