I know I want to upgrade to 1GB of RAM, but how do I know exactly what kind to get or if it even matters.

Pent. 4 Processor 1300/400MHz

is this a prebuilt computer from dell, hp or gateway. and if you built it yourself can you give us a link to the motherboard.

or if u dont even know wat a mobo is, download Cpu-z (google it) and it will give u all the info that u can tell us to help you pick some out.

oh ya i forgot about Cpu-z.

That old S423 motherboad most likely need SDRAM PC100/33, I'm not sure where exactly Rambus kicked in.

Crap. 128MB and its painful. Some guy swapped out motherboards for me because my other one got damaged.

its $40 for a 128 mb stick and $90 for a 256 mb stick at newegg and i think those are the cheapest prices there.

Alright heres a question. Would it almost be better to get a whole new motherboard and get RAM for the new board? I saw a 512MB RDRAM at Newegg for 200+$ and it almost seems that it would be cheaper to go with the first option no?

its not worth it. rambus is not even something anybody should really consider when building/upgrading a computer. trust me, its just not. worth. it. besides, i dont even think your mobo would support 1 gig. i dont know. but go with something with ddr that supports at least 2 gig, then go from there.

RDRAM is a disaster! Its so overpriced thesedays and many companies just shoved it in pcs because they could! Its really bad for the people who have it thesedays!
