How do I know which processes should be running?

I found a link to this site through yahoo and wanted see if I could get my questions answered. I am wondering 2 things: 1.) how do you know how many processes should be running and 2.) what does " idle cpu 73%" mean?

Here is my hijackthis info and I apologize if not done correctly. Please let me know for next time what I should differently.

Well, I assume "idle cpu" means how much work the cpu has to do when you're not doing much. For me, with firefox open, my cpu is at 5 percent, so 70 percent idle seems high.
 
your hyper threading cpu drives automatically run a process similar to the ones used in stress tests to keep you cpu busy and from going crazy.
 
I'm fairly sure that Idle CPU is just something that tells you how much CPU is 'free' at that moment in time (i.e not being used). And as to how many processes you should have running, it changes a lot. Each program you use has a process (and there are a lot of background ones as well), if your pc seems to be going a bit sluggish, type the process name of the ones that are taking up the most cpu or ram into google and it should tell you if you can disable it safely or not.
 
OK, Pls do the following,

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

and post a fresh hijackthis log pls, for the log pls paste the whole log, so i can view your OS, version of Internet explorer + time the log was done.
