how do i overclock my cpu?

I was wondering how exactly do i overclock my cpu the videos i have found are not very informative. also what are the benefits of overclocking?

My cpu is an AMD phenom II x4 840T.

Is this a custom build? What motherboard are you using?
How are you cooling the CPU?

no its an hp built computer
the cpu and mother board is on the website

its in a nzxt m59 case and im using the stock cpu cooler but i plan to upgrade soon to a cooler master hyper 212 plus

Ok well it is highly unlikely that you will be able to OC your CPU being that you have an OEM machine. Generally, the advanced options that you will need to OC are locked or are not there in the BIOS at all. If you want to check for the options they should be under something like advanced CPU options. If you can find and change the FSB you might be able to OC.

When you restart your PC. You will see a splash screen that will have an HP logo. During that time you will want to either Hit Del, F1 or F8. Look around on that splash screen to see what one will get you to the setup.
