Hi.
I have a pretty simple question I guess. I don't know jack about this stuff so I decided to ask on here.

I want to be able to play Xbox 360 through my monitor. Can someone please steer me in the right direction for monitors? Do I need a TV tuner card or can I just plug it into the monitor? I would also like for the monitor to support HD.

All replies are greatly appreciated!

This is what I did...went out and bought the VGA connection for the xbox 360, it also comes with the audio cables...I have my computer screens hooked up DVI, then one monitor 1 my 360, and monitor 2 a TV tuner, so I push a button to toggle between VGA and DVI works awesome.

What the country club said is correct, but i have to add that most monitors made since the late 90's have been "HD". My LCD here is much past the current 1080i standard.

720P is 1280x720
WXGA is 1366x768

Not the same thing.

And 1080i/1080P is 1920x1080
WUXGA is not only extremely uncommon yet, but is only 1920×1200

So also not the same thing.

So computer monitors are "high definition" if you want to call them that, but it's not the same resolution as a monitor made to be used for HD television formats, and will require scaling, which will decrease picture quality to some degree.

if you buy a TV card you can watch tv on your computer and plug things like xbox 360's in and play them in a window while you use your pc for other things (assuming you have 4 arms)

Ok if I get a VGA adapter can I switch back and forth between the computer and the 360? Also, will my surround sound work too?

Its not as complicated as people are making out...

All you need is to buy an Xbox VGA adapter. you can buy these from any store which sells Xbox games, controllers etc.. they are an official Microsoft xbox product.

Then just use that cable instead of the one that comes with the Xbox to plug in your monitor.

As for HD, HD is basically a resolution which a screen supports. Most monitors these days are capable of displaying "HD" as its just a resolution. o beleibe someone posted the conversions above.

if your monitor has only a VGA connector (like CRTs, not sure if it's possible with LCDs), then you could get a VGA switch or something. If you have a LCD, wich usally have both a DVI and VGA connector, you could connect the VGA to the XBOX360 and the DVI to your computer, and you can switch modes with your screen.

If you get surround sound cables, you should be able to use your surround sound on your PC if that's what ur saying.

Ok so since I have two outputs on my videocard can I just put the 360 on the one and have the monitor on the other?? There is no VGA connection on the back of my monitor.

I also need help finding an audio cable that can go in the 360 connector and a regular 1/8th jack on the other end for the "flex jack" on my soundcard.

Thanks.
