I have a Dell laptop and want to reinstall Windows XP so it wipes the hard drive clean like it was when I bought it. I already backed up the info I want. I don't have a Windows disk. I don't think it came with one. So, can anyone give me specific instructions to accomplish this? Thank you in advance.

You need a factory recover disk. You should be able to create one with an application on the computer. Click Start -> Help & Support.

First thing you need to do is call Dell and have them send you the operating system cd and everything else. They do not charge you.

If you have a copy of windows xp on you all you need to do is put the disk in, restart, and go to the boot menu, choose which drive you have it in, and you go through the setup.

They don't charge as long as it's still under warranty. After the warranty expires they charge. It's cheap though. I bought recovery CDs from HP a few weeks ago for like $10-15 USD
