How do I remove cables?

I have an old pc that the psu broke on and I am oging to part it out. My I am having trouble removing the 4 needle cables (not sure what else to call them) that goes from the psu to the hardrive, cd burner, dvd player, etc... I tried just pulling but they are not coming out, how do I remove them?

Also what about the wide grey cables that pass through the hardrive, cd layer and dvd player through a black holder?

the wide grey cables are the ide cables that go from your motherboard to cd/dvd etc. they should also wiggle out nicely.

It takes a little more muscle...

Like others said, you have to wiggle it a little (not too much!) to loosen it, and you have to pull quite hard sometimes, when it gives way though, just don't hit your hand and injure yourself and/or your computer's internal hardware.

Got them all out. They were kind of hard when I pulled out from the mobo. The mobo kind of moved out (but then went back - not a big move but it gave a little) to when I pulled... is that normal?

That means that your motherboard wasn't secured properly.

depends if they were screwed in or if they uses the little plastic clips, if they used the plastic clips, then that sounds normal. but if they were screwed in, then you might have striped some screws, but doesnt sound like anything major that you should worry about.

hehe thanks vampiric rouge
The IDE cables are an independent question hence the double carriage return (and besides, since when do people need to use pliers to remove IDE cables -- and for the cases that do -- since when do power users ask that?) :)
