thats easy just turn off the thing unplug cable, open casing, look for a vertical green bar(called ram, near the upper right end of the mobo) remove it, look for a Big Black/silver device (called a hard drive) and remove it ,done
on some Pc's it's required to slide open both, left and right sides of the casing to remove the hard drive at it's screwed on both sides
Thanks but what is mobo?
Short term for mother board, the board where everything is connected
Doesn't matter but if you are going to replace your primary hard drive where the operative system you should have a xp/vista disk to reinstall the operative system ( restore disk doesn't work), the ram should be the easier to do
Do you mean the restore disk on the PC or an actual restore disk?
Why doesn't it work?
Removing/adding HDs is pretty easy, Just be careful with what you unplug and don't forget to plug back the cables on your HD.
Also you should look for the HD Jumper settings, whether you want it as "Master" or "Slave". If you want to replace by just one HD, make sure it is set on "master".
PS: HD= Hard-Drive
Webbenji
LOL at the jumpers webbenji, those aren't use anymore on recent computers, just sata for hard drives and ide for cd/dvds
LOL at you, from what I've read, his computer isn't recent...
OK... And?
I don't see his HD type...
Just a picture... My computer had jumpers and is as good looking as this one...
LOL at you, from what I've read, his computer isn't recent...
I think I need more advice. Please...
The new hard drive I'm installing is to be a second hard drive that my Mom will use solely for her data files. All her programs will remain on the original hard drive.
The hard drive being used now came already in the computer when she originally got it and had the OS (Windows XP) on it. She didn't get an OS disk with the computer and turns out, she did not create a boot disk for it.
She told me she has an XP Disc that she used on another desktop but I don't know if I can use it on the HP Pavillion.
Thanks in advance.
