How do I see hidden files?

Well, on my old computer, I remember that I did something with the settings and I were able to see the hidden folder "AppData". I'd like to do that on this comp too. Does anyone know how to set that setting so I can see hidden files?

open the folder, hit tools, file options, view, show hidden files

Doesnt work for me, I dont even have anything called tools. I'm using vista BTW

oh, hit alt then go to tools

go to computer > click organize (it should be below the File, Edit, etc etc), click Folder and Search Options, click the View Tab, and then show Hidden Files or Folders should be there.

But instead of doing that, try folder lock or something like it to lock down the folder. People generally know how to find things in the computer...hidden folder, even 4 YO kids know it how to unhide it.

Folder lock stuffed my folders and i couldn't get anything back
