How do I update Firefox tab icons?

I don’t know the terminology, but usually there are icons from the sites I’ve been to when I open a new tab which I can pin. Every so often when I delete the icons in order to find one that I want to pin I end up with empties and there’s nothing I can do to fill them. This has happened many times before and then suddenly they would be filled usually after a Firefox update.

I want to add three pined link icons and I can’t figure out how to do this. Anyway I have asked about this problem a few times before and I never got an answer probably because I’m not asking correctly.

Are you talking about the favicon for the website? Like here at computerforum there is a blue square with CF in the middle. You should be able to click and drag where the favicon is and create the pin/shortcut.

I'm not sure what its called but when I open a new tab there are 8 little icons linked to sites I've previously visited and I can click on the push pin to lock it in place or click on the X to delete it.

OK I now know what they are called, but I still can't get them to update. They are called "New Tab Tiles" and it looks like there is an Add-On for Tile Tabs, but I don't understand why since they are already built in.

Here is the link to Firefox Support in case any one else has this problem, but it still doesn't fix the problem.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/k...=en-US&redirectslug=how-do-tiles-work-firefox

I'm still fooling with them and they may start working. If they do, I'll report back although I might not know what the fix actually was if anything like the other times

I have a correction to my statement above there is actually 15 Tiles which became visible when I Zoomed Out. There were also 2 tiles toward the end so I moved them up.

I give up! This has been a problem ever since Firefox started the New Tab thing and even though the Tiles eventually do start filling in, it takes too long. An advertising site just showed up in my tiles and I have never been on the site so I don't know what to expect next.

Pale moon also quits updating the tiles, but not as bad though I stopped using Pale moon because it has been showing other problems that i don't like.

I guess I'm going to start using the new Microsoft Edge since its being acknowledged as being faster than Chrome.

Well it looks like I have the same problem with MS Edge
There maybe something else going on here because I've had this problem with XP, Vista, Win7 and now Win10, but I didn't realize that it is with all the browsers and not just Firefox.

Just an update to my original problem. It turns out that I hate MS Edge browser because I don't like the looks and it is so slow compared to Firefox that I had to go back to Firefox.
Anyway I discovered that if I use the history window to go to a site, the new tiles tab updates and I now have everything back again. Ironically I had to do the same thing for Edge although Edge doesn't have as many tiles.
