How do I write images and music to DVD

Hi
I am using Windows XP OS. I have a 40GB HDD split between 2 drives. I have a lot of photos and music on the HDD using a lot of space. I have never defragmented my drives or anyhting else in the last two years and the laptop is becoming slower and slower. I want to save all of my images, music and other documents to 4.7GB DVD+RW so that I can then reboot to factory settings, otherwise i risk losing it all.
Does anyone know how to, I keep trying but cant get my head round it. I dont really want to go and buy an external drive.

Also can someone remind me how to chose what programs are loaded on start up as this could be another reason why the laptop is slowing down

Thanks

You would have to use DVD burning software. Something like Nero or PowerDVD.

With the software, you should make a "data disc" and copy all of your music, documents, pictures, etc etc...onto your DVD.

Any image burning software should do it. DeepBurner is freeware that will work just fine. I also beleive windows has some built in burning software(creating a burn folder and such) but I don't ever bother trying it...

I've used the Windows Burning software- or shall I say "tried" to use it. It's given me so many errors its not even funny. It's just a pain to use...I've never actually successfully burned a disc.

The poster was asking how to burn a DVD. Windows internal buring software (XP that is) does not burn DVD's, only CD's so any comments about it are superfolus to this post. The poster has to have a DVD burner installed. No mention of that. He needs third party burning software to burn this DVD. Nero, Roxio or any of the other hundred that will do the job for him.
