i bought an old laptop computer the other day digital hinote vp running windows 98 .it only has one hdd and i want to format it with windows 95 full but i don't know how to do this while it is connected to the same computer any suggestions would be welcome?

So you want to install windows 95?

To format, put your windows dsk in your Optical drive, and make sure in the BIOS that the CD drive is set to boot first.

A message will appear saying press any key to boot from CD.

So, follow the instrauctions, and once the HDD is formatted, it will insall the OS.

These isntructions are the same for any MS OS, so if you can get a windows 98 disk, then you can re install that.

Win95 will not boot from the CD! Trust me, I'm a Win95 owner; I use 95 on my Digital Venturis backup desktop box!
You need to make a boot floppy using Win98, reboot the laptop with the floppy in the drive, and then format to get rid of 98. (Why would you want to get rid of 98? 95 is less stable all the way around) A Win95 bootdisk does NOT have the necessary CD driver on it.
Then put the Win95 CD in the CD drive, reboot, and select a CD driver (plain IDE should work fine for like 99% of all computers), then D:\setup to access the setup routine on your Win95 CD.

as oven had said, windows 95 doesnt boot from the cd. I dont think windows 98 does either...

you need to create a floppy boot disc.

Win95 will need a boot disk, but the first batch of Win98 had a boot disk and the rest (including Win98 SE) had bootable CD's.
