That's another "so called" antispyware?" program that uses trojans to get onto your system. There are a few different tools recommended for seeing it removed. A few of the removal guides at the links here give some instuction along with download links for some tools to try out. Generally you first look in the task manager and end any active processes seen there first. Then you can right click on the files found to change their attributes in many cases for manual deletion or simply bootup in safe mode to simply things. But you first need to know where everything is located on the drive.

boot into safe mode as administrator (root) and change the ownership of the file in question and then delete it. then use some of the links posted to clean out any registry keys and other things it may have left behind

I agree Active X sucks and is a necessary evil in the Microsoft world

Have you thought about performing a system restore to go back a day or so before you saw this? For getting into the safe mode you simply press the F8 key just before Windows starts loading and not too much before that or you may see the board's own F8 menu for selecting the drive to boot from. Once in the F8 menu you simply choose the safe mode option.

Unlike the 9X-ME family of Windows there's no longer any step by step selective boot process where you can load Windows without "unwanted" items loading as well. The msconfig utility is still seen even in Vista fortunately.

you should rplly clam down first, then take a look at all the links that people are providing, clam down because when you are frustrasted you dont work at a steady pace and you tend to screw things up.

Download Smitfraudfix and extract it to the desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Delete them annoying protected files

right click the file, go into sharing and security... and click security tab, and then click advanced, then on that form click the owner tab and at the bottom it says replace owner on subcontainers and objects, then highlight your username on tha middle thing and press okay, then u should be owner of the file and be able to delete.

If you use use a active directory domain you will need to do it as a administrator

If you have admin priveliges (go control panel, then to users, in there ur be able to see) then you dont need to p*ss about with ownership (it aint vista ur talking about is it?).

The file is locked cos windows would have loaded it and files asscotatied to it (like .dll file)s into the system memory.

In many cases, if u have managed to identify the offending file(s), then u can simply use a v.small freeware prog called Unlocker http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Go have a look at it.
