How do You Burn Backups of a Windows XP Installation Disk?

8X is fine. I don't burn anything lower than that, and I'm very picky when it comes to my CD's whether data or audio. The only time that I've ever went slower was when I made a backup of my mom's XP to Vista upgrade disc (that no one ever used rofl :P), and even at that I only went to 4X.

Most i agree on as far as burn speed. Then again im picky about backups like windows 7 pro. I made sure i had good copies. i burn at slower speed. 8 is about right. Other than that like all my backups of firefox, thunderbird and family pictures etc. gets burned at the highest speed.

then again the comment about burner was like 16 and allowed to burn at 36 or what ever. i would have a concern and not trust.

trust me i burn a lot more. the computer has 4 burners and burn all one time. Sorry if it was not understood. He said he had a 16 speed burner thats the highest speed he should have seen. He also said it allowed him to burn at 36 speed, he should have seen option to burn at 16. that was the concern. to me he should not have seen the 36 as an option. On the other hand if he meant that was a 36 or 48 speed cd or dvd that would be fine at slower speed also. just depends on how he interpreted it.

Here is a clarification. My have DVDs are only rated at 16x speed. The program Gizmo would not let me burn at a speed below 36x.

My DVD burner is the following:

Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7190S, 16X DVD-ROM, 48X CD-R, Optical Drive

Specifications are here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118002

NewEgg says my maximum read speed is 16x but my maximum write speed for DVD-R is 20x. Does that make any sense? It doesn't to me.

Regardless, I don't think I would burn at a speed higher than 16x.

Hmm, that's weird. My burner burns DVDs at 16x, and I use Gizmo to burn them. Never had an issue, though sometimes it would misinterpret the maximum burning speed. Did you even try to make it work? Oh well, IR is ok too, just you have to have the internet and it has less features as Gizmo. I recommend Gizmo for every geek, as it's such a useful and feature filled program.

Bottom line what im thinking about 16 and 20.
Burners are cheap.
On the other hand goto device manager and right click the burner with up date better driver. i know ya know but look. No yellow exclamation?

Another note.
-R more compatible with older systems like dvd players and slower. +R are faster. its newer and just done quicker. faster burn. The note does not have anything to do with. The hardware issue i cannot explain. We will have to wait for somebody else.It was conversation and sharing.
I do not know, and im curious why.
