How do you find the right DVD-R without spending a fortune???

Hello All,

So I'm thinking that my computer won't recognize Maxwell brand DVD-R's. I can play CD's and make CD's but when I put a Maxwell blank DVD in you can hear the computer trying to read it over and over but then the message pops up to insert a blank CD and try again.
Does anyone know of a really good brand that will usually work in most drives? I don't want to keep buying and wasting until I find the right one. Thanks a lot to anyone who answers!!!

Do you have a CD burner or a DVD burner?

If you have a CD drive it obviosly will not recognize DVDs if you put them in..

Is your drive a -R or +R? Are your DVDs +R or -R?

Heh. I just buy your standard 50 DVD spindle from my suppliers when I go down to pick up other stuff.

Yeah, as other's mentioned it sounds almost like you're trying to use DVD-R's in a CDRW/DVD-ROM drive.

What's it say on the front of the drive? Got any model numbers for us?
