How do you format a laptop with Win XP?

Hi,

My Dell Laptop came with loads of cr_p installed and the hard drive has a partition for some reason. I'm very keen to reformat the computer and install my own Win XP CD.

I have Win XP pro which is what I want to install, but I remember that last time I tried to reinstall it I was not given the option to format but only to repair the current XP installation or to reinstall.

How do I go about reformatting a laptop which has no floppy drive, and installing a fresh Win XP?
 
Will it be able to format from a CD? Seeing as I only have the Win XP installation CD and not the boot disks. Also will it allow me to merge the two partitions which Dell created?
 
yes you can format your hdd from xp cd, also before you format can can chose to delete or make partitions.
