I tried changing the heatsink on my videocard... everything went according to plan until I tried booting up. The computer started fine, all the fans were spinning, the lights went on & I could hear the HD & CD roms. The only problem.. the monitor stayed in the power-save mode as if it wasn't plugged into the comp. I made sure everything was hooked up 10 times over, I tried a new videocard & the fan was spinning on it so I'd assume it was working fine.. I even tried a new monitor. There was no beeping.. the computer itself booted with the same sounds that it normally boots with.
So..
a) With the symptoms I mentioned, does it sound like the motherboard could be the problem (perhaps I killed it with esd)?
b) Is there a way of finding out if a motherboard is hosed?
c) Wouldn't all the components not start up if the motherboard was bad?
d) Anyone know what could be wrong with my comp? Could a cmos reset help at all?
My comp.. forgot the exacts but...
asus mobo
2 8800's (just added Accelero heatsink on 1 of them before problem began)
- I tried the other 8800 by itself after the problem.. then the original by itself. Neither worked.
4gb ram
amd6000
