how do you know if the CPU and the Mobo are compatible?

I'm pretty new to computers and i just recently started to learn about em. i was wondering how can a person know if the CPU and the mobo are compatible or not? Is the socket type the only thing thats needed to know? or is there other things to it? Also how do u know if the graphics card and the mobo are compatible? sorry. like i said im a newbie and i would like to learn. =]

check the manufacturer website for the motherboard model they should have a cpu list than will show if it will work or not and if it needs a bios update.

as long as it has sata and ide ports.

As long as your motherboard has the same port that your HDD uses, then yes.
