how do you know what voltage is to low

When you increase your fsb how do you know how low you can turn your voltage down? Will it just cut off?

Also, is there any way you can change the multiplier on a q6700? Unlock it some how?
 
you cant unlock a multiplier....has to come that way. you wont post if your voltage is to low or you will lockup,freeze
 
on another note, i got my q6700 up to 3.00 ghz on stock voltages

i have a striker extreme motherboard, and it has an option to leave the FSB linked with the DDR frequency, i left that enabled, and my DDR's MHz was 903 when i was done adjusting, should i leave that at 903 mhz, or is that high? i got to reading a lot of people leave it on 800 or 667, any tips?
 
You should have your divider set to 1:1, i.e. the RAM runs at the speed of FSB. This yields the best performance, and even at those speeds (667 or 800) you won't be using full memory bandwidth, maybe an exception would be running extremely memory-intensive applications on single-channel. However, I take it that your memory id dual-channel, so you're all set. If, however, you get 903 and have your ratio set at 1:1, you're still good to go as long as it's stable... I'd run memtest to make sure that the memory is alright at those speeds.

If the voltage is to low it will either freeze-error or restart. No you cant unlock it.

ok, so far everything has been running stable today, no problems, only like a 3 degree increase and i went from 2.66 to 3.01 (i know thats not much but this is my first OC)

the only thing ive seen that made a jump, that i havnt adjusted, i went back to try and manually set it back to where it was when i started and it still wont move is ddr voltage

it was 1.9 (i think,,,the way i wrote my temps down just falls down the list in my bios, i didnt label them)

and now its running at 2.05 but if thats the case, again im new at this, but it doesnt seem .15 volts is much--but i may be very wrong :D
 
Usually there is no temperature sensors on the memory sticks.

And the only way to get a new CPU with the multiplier unlocked is to somehow get your hands on a so called "engineering sample". I know that some reviewers have gotten engineering samples to try out, mainly because the actual production of consumer versions hasn't gotten up to speed yet. I did have an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ that was from one of the last batches of CPUs that AMD made before they started locking the multipliers, and let me tell you it overclocked really well using the stock heatsink. From 1.53GHz to about 2.3GHz without raising the vcore. And it was stable, though I did however short a RAM slot after about 6 months. :P
