How do you reduce the size of a film?

Hey does anybody know the best way to reduce the file size of a film???
I need to free some disk space!
I don't know whether to convert the video format or edit the movie itself etc.

Help will be gratefully appreciated...

put them on CD's or DVDs or you can zip them.

Yes, compress them somehow, either zips or you could recompress the video to a smaller format(less resolution, higher compression, etc...)

Or if that for some reason doesn't work, you can use windows movie maker to lower the resolution.

Remember that if you reduce the resolution, bitrate, etc... you will loose quality. I'd burn them to CD/DVD if at all possible.

Zipping generally won't compress any form of already compressed video very far.

Convert to DivX or XviD.

yeah to reduce the size use "dvd shrink" this program makes it fit on a dvd5 which is 4.7gb instead of its original dvd9 which is 8.5gb
