How do you regain the admin rights on your computer?

there are no other accounts

tremmor,
how are you doing my friend?

there are no other accounts (at least that show up -- unless they are "invisible")
there is ONLY 1 user -- the original admin user

voyagerfan99,
hi

so reinstalling an OS (on the main computer, original admins computer) would give you admin rights, when using it for an entire network?

Do us a favor, go into control panel, user accounts and tell us what is listed. Also make sure you say if the account is listed as administrator or limited account. Just like it shows in this image.

If it says administrator then they have administrator privileges.

Security program can't be completed!!!!!!!!!

johnb35,
wow, i'm really glad you showed up!

huh -- dang, that's strange. it says in the landlords computer that they are the administrator. i don't understand -- truly. ???
here are some strange things that are happening to the computer::eek:

1. under the homegroup section [w7] i got the message of [just after program failures due to "lack of admin rights" error message, when running security programs, and 1 other place]
"there are no other people in your homegroup"
2. several days later, now when the homegroup section is clicked, i get the message of
"windows detected a homegroup on your network. with a homegroup, you can share files and printers with other computers running w7"
["the homegroup was created by [name of roomate]"]

3. when it was just noticed that a security breach had occurred, i clicked on media devices, and 2 media devices were listed.
4. 1 hour after the security breach had occurred/noticed and the suspect [roomate] was informed, suddenly, now under media devices, only 1 media device is listed!
5. this is the error message that i got after the security breach has taken [but NEVER had gotten this message "before" the security breach had taken place] place: [program running, security program]
"ERROR
"you are missing administrator rights to perform this action. if you need to do this, please run this application elevated as an administrator"
6. the admin folder is spelled wrong: "amin"
7. when the music folder is clicked on, message recieved:
"contacting the remote media library"
8. when media devices [with roomate's name] is clicked on, everything is the same as the normal media player, except there are no "playlists" or "other media" sections.
9. in windows media player, under original admins name, the "other libraries" section is the roomates name
10. one day later after breach was noticed, the network name was changed [to another roomates name]
11. several days later, the network name was changed [roomates name] a second time, this time an additional name was added to the network, so that there are now TWO new network names!!!

12. just after breach was noticed, listed: computers (4), media devices (2). several days later computers (5), media devices (3).
13. admin folder on original admins computer is totally empty
14. admin folder seen on roomates [suspects] computer is completely FULL of files!

15. as soon as the roomate [suspect] was informed that a security breach had taken place, suddenly, and mysteriously, the network name changed; and where there had once been two folder in the admin section of the network [on original admins computer, landlord], now there is only 1 [it is empty].
16. the network name is [roomates name]
17. under network in "ADMIN-PC" section, in users, under roomates name [they have files on the landlords hard drive. one of these includes a folder named "tracing" (live messenger)
18. possible strange thing: in "ADMIN-PC" section, in users, there is a folder named -- "Dub_CM_auto" that has the folder in it -- "Application Data", wherein the only file in the folder is contained: "NPE.exe".
19. several days later, i again ran the security program that i was not "able" to complete last time due to a "lack of admin rights". what is listed here are 2 trojens. however, i have ALWAYS been able to use this security program to fix any problems, but NOW i cannot: the security program "refuses" to fix these trojens because i LACK admin rights. the error message is detailed as follows:
"WARNING
"this action may not be performed completely since you are not the administrator"
"you are missing administrator rights to perform this action. if you need to do this, please run this application elevated as an administrator"
20. under user accounts in the control panel, only 1 user is listed. this user is specified to be the administrator.

example of how the landlords computer looked just after the breach:
<ADMIN-PC>
Users
Amin [spelled wrong AND empty]
[can't remember folder name] [has since been deleted after the roomate has been informed of the breach]
Dub_CM_auto
Application Data [NPE.exe, only file in folder]
[roomate's name] (roomate has files on landlords computer, including "tracing" and (live messenger)
Public

example of how the landlords computer looked 1 hour after suspect was notified of the breach:

<ADMIN-PC>
Users
Amin [spelled wrong AND empty]
Dub_CM_auto
Application Data [NPE.exe, only file in folder]
[name changed] (2nd roomate's name with a VAIO added to name. roomate has files on landlords computer, including "tracing" and (live messenger))
Public

example of how the landlords computer looked several days after (today) roomate was notified of the breach:

<ADMIN-PC>
Users
Amin [spelled wrong AND empty]
Dub_CM_auto
Application Data [NPE.exe, only file in folder]
[name changed] (roomate's name. roomate has files on landlords computer, including "tracing" and (live messenger))
[second user added] (name of 2nd roomate, which only suspect roomate would know [inside]. roomates files on landlords hd, including "tracing" and (live messenger))
Public

did ya try creating another user account with admin rights.
I know it happened to me years ago. it let me create another.
after i verified it worked then i deleted my original account.
i do have back up accounts also for this reason with admin rights.
if yours is corrupted then you have a problem and no back door.

hi there tremmor,
i'm really glad to see you

1. no i didn't create another account. but some else on our network may have done so. two NEW name entries have no "appeared" (not in the wireless section), but in the "Network" section itself!! and there name is the only name besides the admin that shows up! i am a bit worried about names "mysteriously" appearing on the network section next to the admin folder by themself, which i did NOT put there.

2. after i brought it to the attention of the roomate [transgressor], the name on the Network section "mysteriously" changed, then changed again when another name was added.

3. what is your opinion about the odd things that i described in detail that were happening in my last post?
