How do you set those stupid jumpers?

Alright, I have a Dell Dimension 2350. I got a Lite-On DVD Writer and CD Burner. I have no idea how to set the jumpers. I've watched movies and read how-to's and still nothing. Right now, I have the CD Burner set to Cable select and that works. Which it's on the top. And the DVD Writer is set to slave right now I think. I've tried all different combos and My computer sees both drives. Cept only my CD burner works. I would really love to get this thing working. I've had the drive for about a year lol never got a round to installing it.

Sounds like the dvd drive also needs to be set to cable select as well as the cd primary drive. It's quite common to see prebuilds having any ide type drives set to CS over master or slave simply to allow fast replacement or upgrade of drives by techs as well as on the assembly line.

The other thing you might need to do is use a len cleaner having mentioned the drive was simply "sitting around for a year". DUST and DIRT are the two dirty words that will gum up the works. Then of course you may simply have to try another data cable in case that's the problem.

Set the drive at the end of the cable to Master and the drive on the middle connector to Slave. Or set both to Cable Select.

nope. tried cable select on both drives and nothing. I think i might pick up a disc cleaner. I mean it opens and everything but something most likely got damaged. I'll see if I get get a new one from Lite-on. MAYBE.
