How does google know where you are

I am really curious how can Google when on maps.google determine your location quite precisely?

Do they determine it only based on the IP or they use other data. What data?
 
i was thinking maybe he was talking about google earth which GPS. On the other hand you can trace the ip to the provider. A city and state. they would have to contact the provider which would only be supplied to state and federal. (who owns the ip).
 
Your browser just looks for wifi access points around you that are submitted in google maps, also if someone has submitted your wifi access point mac address to a location on google maps, then it will know almost exactly where you are ;) Kinda creepy, google know what we search, what websites we visit, where we live :O and for some of us even have our emails!
 
Not because of your ip. Because of cookies and script controls being on. Its a permission which you authorize. That will lead to theft and control or take over.

Not all are bad though. Here, local newspapers etc. hang out down stairs or google then click on a site and don't know where its taking you. Porno or where ever. could be looking for shoes at google then get advertisments through email for say work shoes. Turn them off then ya won't get in like here.

Only way to spoof is stay out, a proxy web tunnel etc and not free. And i would port through another country. (might say in / out board). then im still not sure how safe that is. best i can figure.

Google is like Big Brother in 1984. They know practically everything you do online, can scan your HDD to find what programs you use regularly, what sites you visit, how you talk, and for some of us, even run our browser. I am not completely sure, but i think they will turn in people to the FBI or CIA if you search for stupid crap like IMing a Terrorist, or other keywords, like floor plans to the local high school.

It is extremely hard to do anything on the net that someone don't find out about.

The ultimate advice how to stay off radar would be not use the internet at all and go live in desert right :-)
