How Does This System Look To You?

Hi, I have never built a computer. I am considering it now after reading this site and a bunch of others... I figure, "how hard could it be?" Just follow the instructions... I am slightly worried about like, what if I get shipped a defective part, will I be able to figure out why the computer is not working and what part is defective etc?

Anyway, here's the parts I'm looking at, for mainly an audio production machine:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

Antec PERFORMANCE TX640B Black Steel ATX Mini Tower Computer Case 400W Power Supply - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811129157

Do I need an additional PSU? If so:

Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply 115/230 V

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145590

Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822136033

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250820AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148142

ASUS P5B Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131030

Is it worth spending 70 more dollars to get the "P5B Deluxe??? I am not doing any crazy stuff like overclocking, I dont even know what that means...

ATI 100-435712 Radeon X850PRO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO AGP 4X/8X Video Card

Is there anything I'm missing? Anything I should change?

Appreciate any comments or advice!

im in the same boat as you ... trying to figure this junk out and build my own.

but im pretty sure the MB you chose will not be compatable with that AGP gpu. might wanna look at pcix16 gpus and a MB that has 2 pcix16 slots. i could be dead wrong too ....

Where's your sound card? As Stringer posted, that graphics card is AGP and your motherboard is PCI-E, so you'll have to get a PCI-E graphics card.

This graphics card is much better:

Everything is fine, other than what I mentioned above, as well as the case. I'd recommend getting a separate PSU and case, so you aren't paying for two PSUs.

Hey, any recommendations on a good, sturdy cheap Case with no PSU and good cooling? Hopefully, easy to use inside for a computer building a noob also?

get DDR2-667
here is my explination
no 667 is just as fast or faster.

While DDR2-800 looks nice on paper, it's simply not necessary to get the most performance out of your system, As long as you've got low-latency memory modules, DDR2-667 will perform just as well as DDR2-800. The explination behind this is simple: Core 2's FSB runs at 1,066MHz but is only 64 bits wide, delivering 8.53GBps of bandwith to the CPU. Core 2's memory subsystem is 128 bits wide but even at DDR2-667 can deliver 10.67GBps of bandwith, meaning that unless its FSB Frequency is faster than 1,333MHz, the CPU can't use any more memory bandwith. So its almost pointless to spend the pretty penny just to say you own DDR2-800 when you get no benifits.
