In computers that can tell you the cpu temp, is the thermometer built in? my computer does not have a thermometer built in, can I buy one somewhere? where would it connect to?

thanks

Every CPU today is able to monitor it's own temp if only for thermaloverload. Most chips can report this the motherboard and it can be read by software. Some boards do have other temp sensors on them but this is rare. The most common thing is when a computer has a front panel temp display it's reading the temp of probes placed in the case. You can get a front panel temp display with typically 2 temp senors and fan controls and some USB ports for about $35 (US currency) at places like tigerdirect or newegg.
