How far can I get my wifi connection to go?

Hey, at my dad's house, I have a linksys router, than about 2 miles away is my mom's house, I have a belkin wireless card that says it can go 700 feet, I'm not sure how much of a range my router covers, but it doesn't reach, is there anything I could get to make the two connect? I bet there's probobly not, but I just want to check to make sure...

yeah 700 feet like out in the middle of a huge field where there is NO interference.

Typically, your basic home consumer wifi AP/Router can range anywhere from 100 to 300 feet depending on signal boosting and interference, 700 feet you would probably want an AP repeating the wifi signal somewhere in there

Yeah, that's what I thought it was, so it's probobly not going very far in a neighborhood with a lot of houses. What's an AP and how much are they? I'm pretty much new when it comes to wifi.

AP = access point, and for best results you would have to run an ethernet cable to it. So you could run like a 100ft cable from your router to your AP, and your AP would repeat the wireless signal.
