How full is my hard drive?

Hi all

Not sure if I've got the right forum for this but here goes.

I have a PC running WinXP SP2. From Windows Explorer if I select the C drive and right click and select properties I'm informed that I have used 51.4 Gb. If I then select all directories in the C drive and right click, properties I'm told I have used 29.9 Gb (this one sounds more like it).

What's going on? Where has all my hard drive space gone? Can I recover it?

hidden and protected system files. you wont see them. and other random hidden files. if you really want to free up some space

accesories -> system tools -> disk cleanup -> more options -> delete previous system restore files. that frees up a lot. i had over 15GB of restore files built up. then do the normal disk cleanup after that.

Hi guys

Thanks for the suggestions. Just tried them both - the fist disk cleanup took overnight. Both methods in my original thread now show around 43 Gb, which is a big improvement, but still seems a litle high.

I usually keep an eye on my pie chart but some time last weekend it went up overnight from obout 40% to around 60%. I've checked for duplicate files and any files over 100Mb but nothing that I didn't know about has shown up. I'm now around the 45% mark.

Thanks again for your help.
