How good are ACER latops?

As said in thread title :P . Im after a new laptop and seen alot of these about so just curious as to how good thay are.

My friend bought and acer this summer and the one he bought had been previously used for 6 months before returning because "they didn't like it." It was marketed as new when my friend bought it. I don't know if this is a reflection upon acer or the store he bought it from. Recently the mother board had to be replaced the audio jack in the front literally fell out. The mother board was covered under warranty but he had to pay 150 dollars shipping for them to replace it.

sounds like a big time rip off from the store- as far as i know the company doesn't have much to do with returns unless you talk to them directly about a failure

their computers are great but i fiind that compared to compaq or hp, they can be a bit flimsy but maybe it was just my old model. i have a compaq now and it feels better put together and made. but they are still good systems inside
