how good is it

That is exactly what it is....a 8800 GT in a new plastic cover and a new name:eek:

It does have a different BIOS for the 9800 GT card but it does not increase performance. In most tests the new BIOS only gives you about 1-3 FPS better than the 8800 GT. The 8800 GT is about $20 less so the extra 2 FPS does not justify the price increase. Here is a comparison from GPUReview.com

As you can see they are the exact same card hardware wise....no difference!

Heres a better way. Tell us a budget your spending on a card and we can tell you whats the best card for the money.

wow i only read your first few posts, but gosh if you really want answers look them up yourself. there are charts all over the internet that show exactly how that card performs in each and every game. you just need to search around, google is your friend.

its obviously got improvements over the 8800gt, but nothing substantial over the 8800gt so i wouldn't waste my money on the 9800gt. go for either the 8800gt or the gtx260/gtx280. at least those cards used a new architecture.

well i can exactly tell you my budget or what i want cause i just started saving money for a new comp all i can tell you is that i am going to be using it for music movies and medium-alto of gaming and some web browsing

bc its a lot more expensive, and if you dont need top of the line performance, then you dont need to spend that much

If you have the money, by all means go for the 4870, that card does offer top-of-the-line performance. If you want to save a little, get the 4850. If you want to look at NVIDIA alternatives for these cards, consider 9800GTX+ or 9800GX2, but I would recommend the Radeons because they perform better at high resolutions, or with AA.
