How good is this?

I just got a new computer. It is 3.8ghz, got 500gb hard drive, 1024mb of ram and an ATi X700 256mb video card. Will this play the top games on high res, is that video card any good.

Well instead of getting a 3.8 i would get more ram for BIG GAMES, Yep video card is good, But radeon are sweeter...

Just custom build your own.

Your CPU will run a little warm but otherwise its good. The x700 is a Radeon so I'm not entirely sure what Smurf-you is talking about (probably a typo). And you've got plently of RAM so no worries there.

Saying the exact CPU would be more helpfull, but its prabally is good. Rememebr clock speed isn't everything. I'm asuume its an Intel correct?

No AMD hits the 3.8Ghz mark, not that speed (like you said) has anything to do with performance.

It depends on the game, Lock On likes it's resources and has used 400+MB RAM and it's crash happy (due to a memory leak and numerous other bugs that are apparently unpatchable without breaking something else) so if it crashes and you want to run it again without rebooting you need boatloads of RAM.

cheers thanks people if I gave u a model name would any of you lot know the sort of price I should have payed. I know there is a code ort something but not sure where it is located. Can any of you help.

Ohh and someone said it would get hot, too right, it raises the temp of my room by atleast 4 or 5 degrees. And the fan sounds like a helicopter. I going to build a cupboard for it cos its sooo noisy. Ohh and the model is the Advent T9402 (without monitor).

Since when do you need over 1GB of RAM (not counting SDRAM) to run a game good?

Far Cry runs better with the more ram you have, i had 512mb, laggy as hell, has 1gb, ran smoothe, have 1.25gb, runs slightly better.

Well its either the 570 or 670 both of which are pretty close specwise to each other.

Well there was that N2(l) cooled FX55 .... :P

Except with 1.25GB it'll prolly run less smoothly because you'll [potentially] lose half your memory bandwidth :)

Well I know where I brought it from in England the shop lost £400 on selling it XD. Prices in England seem to be slightly higher than in the US though, but went on a currency converter and for full setup (excluding monitor) was $1,549.72 . Wow the pretty pricey, I wish I lived in the US everything is cheaper realy.
