how hot is to hot

what temp should a pc run at?
This probably belongs in the cooling section, ergo i have moved it

But the inside of a pc case will have varying temp delta to it surrounding areas. This is because some area generate move heat than other.

Your motherboard will (if the feature is available) shutdown once your cpu temp reaches a preditermined level, normal between 65-70*C.

well how would u get a reading of the temp. in your system? my instinct would be that if it starts to get hot at all then turn it off and let the fans wind down and cool off. a computer can get hot in a shorter amount of time due to dust within the tower. so make sure you clean the tower. i just clean all my fans and whatnot of dust yesterday. only took about 10-15 minutes.

when you first turn on your computer you hit delete to get to system BIOS. its in there.

when my prosesor was running at normal speed it was at about 45oC and then i overclocked it and it ran at about 53oC. I know this is to high and i wanted to see how hot it would run if i underclocked it so i did. now when i turn my computer on everything powers up but the video, sound, usb, ps2, and serial dont work. my screen says to cheak my cable conection.

does anyone know how i can fix it?

is that free or do you have to purchase it... because if you have ot buy it i think that's kind of dumb. i'd rather go out and buy a thermometer and stick it in my tower and wait til i get a reading lol.

I challenge you to get a decent core temp reading, or even a heatspreader surface temp, with a thermometer.

i was kidding. that's basically impossible. besides, i keep my system in an average temperature environment so i dont think i really need to worry about that at the moment.

Well, actually getting a temp sensor on the heat spreader isn't impossible, just takes a little work and know-how :).

Not saying that you need to worry, but just because the ambient room temp is low doesn't meant the CPU isn't running hot.

I have a temp gun i use for my nitro rc car, and it gives me great temps for certain spots in my pc. I think u can pick em up for around 30 bux now.

well yeh i kno that the computer becomes hot regardless what the temperature is... i kno this because my leg kind of touches the tower when im sitting down so i feel the heat from it. im just stating that it's better to have it in an average temperature room than in a room where temp. will influence the malfunctioning of the system... but thanx for your input
